making a chalkboard...for dummies

I have been dying to make a chalkboard all summer and ever since this pin all I could picture was a large chunky gold frame.

I wanted to find a frame which had a picture in it so that it already had glass and I could simply paint the glass. Finding a good one was so difficult as most people really thought a lot of the picture inside the frame and every one I found was pricey! Finally Chase and I found this little gem on clearance as the picture inside (which I couldn't possible care any less about) was damaged.

I then went to Home Depot where the boy basically told me painting the glass was the most ridiculous thing he had ever heard, but if I was going to do it I would need to prime the glass. He recommended I use a gray primer, but I think whatever color would have been fine being I was painting chalkboard on top of it, but I went with the gray. He was right, the glass was very slick but after several coats of the gray primer, it was very easy to paint on.

The not so sweet Home Depot boy also suggested I use a roller but there I think he was wrong. Reading online and from my own experience I recommend just a cheap foam brush! I am very hasty and just went right at it in the frame. I should have absolutely just taken the backing off the frame and gotten the glass out so I didn't have to worry about getting paint on the frame and it would have saved me a lot of heartache!

Here is the finished product! It is far from perfect and I am not sure what I should put of the buffet table it is hanging over but this is what she looks like for now. Can you spot something or should I say somebody else new in this picture???

No, it's not that sweet Spanish couple in the big frame, it is my boy's little brother or sister he is holding in the little frame! (I get that it would have been very difficult to spot!) I AM GOING TO BE AN AUNT....AGAIN! I cannot contain my excitement. Almost three years ago, I received the greatest birthday present I have ever received with the news of Deacon. Seeing that sonogram picture of him and becoming his Aunt was without a doubt the most exciting moment of my life (second to his birth, of course)! Having him tell me the news about his baby brother or sister in his mommy's belly was maybe even more so. Not only because I was so excited for him, but also because being an Aunt is more indescribable than I could have ever even dreamed before.  I don't know if I can wait until March!
