Last night's event theme was A Night of Bourbon Street, which basically equated to Heaven on Earth for my boy, well and sort of me too. The first time I visited Chase at UK I couldn't believe how unanimous bourbon was as the drink of choice. The fraternity tailgates offered two drink choices, bourbon or Natural Light. Maybe bourbon just always won by default? Anyway, I vowed to Chase I was never going to be one of those girls drinking bourbon, ever. Bourbon was for old men. He assured me that I would, "everyone loves bourbon here."
It's true, maybe it's something in the air, maybe it's the horses, or maybe because our state is cranking out more than 95% of the world's bourbon. Seriously, the whole process is unbelievable. My family toured the Makers Mark distillery last Spring and the amount of work that goes into producing that liquid courage is amazing. They brew the mash (brew is probably not the right word, but I am no distiller) and they place it in barrels, where it stays for seven long years before it's ready for me to drink with Diet Coke. Seven freaking years. That is serious. It has to jump through a lot more hoops before hitting my glass, but the seven years part just baffles me. We love Makers Mark, the drink, their story, and their marketing. It is a family business and the mom, Mrs. Samuels, came up with the idea for the red wax. #obvi
Speaking of bourbon, what's that little the beautiful little drink in Chase's cup that you wish you could see better? We wish it had a name, but no one told us what it was so I am going to lovingly refer to it as the Money Maker (that's what I would name it if Makers Mark asked me). I am going to market it and you should make it.
I hope your weekend is treating you fabulously!
